Work in Progress 07.20.09
After seeing Pixar's Up, it got me thinking about how much I love cartoons. I grew up on cartoons. Such as...Looney Tunes, Felix the Cat, Popeye, Silly Symphonies, the Walter Lantz and Tex Avery classics and of course, the early Walt Disney features. This is the stuff the Pixar guys grew up with, the stuff that inspired them and it got me thinking about what I wanted to be when I was a wee lad. So I made a decision. A decision to always make sure to recognize my roots, because it's evident in Pixar's work. They look back and put their own stamp of things. They don't worry about what's cool and hip. Story will always be cool and hip, and most important. I've always tried to make my work (or sketches) tell a story. Even if the story means something totally different to each person who sees it. Professionally I'ma graphic designer, but at heart I'm still that little boy who wanted to create characters of his won with stories of their own. So I introduce to you a couple more (I'll add to this throughout the week). Jimmy the Vampiric Lima Bean and Maynard the beer-swilling broccoli tree. Stay tuned for more.
Never the end,
