2 Reasons to Love Sushi and Gazpacho!

These two little guys are two great tastes that taste great together! That's it!

I've been so busy with deadlines I've had very little time to work on the chronicles. So I'm happy to share this little gem with you. Again, these two little guys are Sushi and Gazpacho. Down below is Pandamonium getting worked by the crazy little cat. Lately I've been digging the color palette you see here. A great combo, I think.

I've been asked how to create characters and I think in order to design characters you have to love them. Think about the characters you grew up with and make a list of the ones that you care about the most, figure out why and then think about the people around you that can inspire characters of your own. It's a matter of playing with the sketches over and over again until you feel comfortable with your creation, but the personality and story is the most important. And remember that the drawings will evolve. Just look at the original sketches of these two guys.

Sushi and Gazpacho circa 2009

There you have it. Just keep drawing. Your sketch book is your best friend.

Love them Dennis and you can see and feel ther personalities. What i also like is the fact that it seems to be an evolving process and it reminds me of the early pictures of say Micky Mouse and how he evolved. Just like we do i suppose in real life.

Exactly! Everything evolves. which is funny because classic Mickey is my favorite of his many incarnations. Thank you, Susan.

Like Sushi and Gazpacho. What people in your life inspired you to create these two charachters? One Spaniard and one Jap? By the way I love both sushi and gazpacho.

@Dayne - thanks man. We'll see. I'd like to see toys first. ;)

@Catarina Well, when you've designed as many characters as I have, you get into the swing of things and just create personalities. For example, Sushi is the more stoic, silent-type, but will lose his temper when he has to, while Gazpacho is very expressive and runs hot most of the time. He uses his hands to speak too. But they're both loyal friends.

These are great! Very alive and full of action. They really do show their characters and I agree, you should create a comic book from it!

You’re obviously very talented Dennis. It’s best if I limit my sketching to drawing bouquets of daisies in the margins of my notepad. :)
