Do Something Fun Before Work

I bet that when you get up in the morning you get straight to work doing what you do best, but I want to offer a little advice to you. Start your day by doing something you love or something creative. It can be anything and that's what makes this great. I read an article this week, that talked about the benefit of doing something fun before you get into your work (Usually people end with something fun in their day). It helps to put you in a better mood before tackling your tasks and it makes you more efficient. I agree.

Last week, I drew up this sketch as part of our 5 Day Challenge. For the last 3 mornings I have been working on this new piece little by little and now I'm sharing it. It made a huge difference in the rest of my day and it felt good to complete something fun. I'm not even getting paid for this! But it sure pays off regardless. So I challenge you to do the same tomorrow morning and see how it makes you feel. I hope you like Harley Quinn illustration, especially because I'm going to offer it as a print very soon. So let me know what you think and I'll see you soon.

I love the illustration! Starting by something you love does really work for me. Even just to brosw through looking at cool nice designs haha... anything that I like.

You nailed it -- I immediately rush to my computer, sometimes bypassing even the very few stretching exercises I do every morning. It's addictive -- so email can't wait a few minutes while I do something fun? Great idea, Dennis. Also, loved the illustration.

@Jeannette Glad I could help. :D

Even though I was working like a crazy person this summer I was so happy because I would get up before everyone, go out to my studio, and start work. It was great! So I agree with you on the start your day with something creative, my problem is I'm not a morning person, and I have to get up at 7 to get my kids to school on time, so there's just no time to do anything creative! I do check my e-mail though...

What a great idea. Once you start on e-mails and social media the time flies by. I try to have breakfast with my kids each morning.

Hi Dennis,

It looks great and I can see your morning creativity has worked.

Although it is not creative I find when I exercise outside in the morning certainly makes me more productive during the day than grabbing a coffee and turn on the laptop. This is especially so as I live near a beach and just looking at the surf, sun and the surroundings just makes exercising more enjoyable.

Thanks everyone for the comments! Much appreciated. I did want to address a few.

@Rob That's a great idea for people with family.

@Susan It definitely doesn't have to be creative, but I wanted to address creatives and those that don't consider themselves creatives. I wake up at 6:30am every other morning (these days) to get the endorphins going. :)

@Vanessa Thanks, Vanessa. And a very Merry Christmas to you!
